RCIA Right of Catholic Initiation for Adults

RCIA / RCIC - The R.C.I.A. was restored by Pope Paul VI on January 6, 1972. Previously, if someone wanted to become Catholic, they met with the pastor for several private sessions and then usually were baptized or, in the case of persons baptized in another faith tradition, were professed into the Church in a private ceremony. Pope Paul VI took it out of the pastor’s office and brought it back into the community where is rightfully belongs.

Those who wish to become baptized in the Catholic faith and those who were previously baptized in another faith tradition now attend classes that are led by the pastor, associate pastor, deacon, director of religious education, pastoral minister and some dedicated parishioners. The class meets on Monday evenings beginning in September and then, starting with the 1st Sunday of Advent, come together for the 9:30 am liturgy, where they are introduced to the assembly through the Rite of Acceptance. The whole community is then asked to pray for and support the RCIA members. Part of the beauty of the program is that it does include the community.

The RCIA is dismissed after the homily, where they go to another part of the building to “break open the Word,” that is, take a closer look at the readings and the homily that day and apply it to their daily lives. The Monday evening session is where they learn about the Church, prayer, the sacraments and being Catholic Christians.

Please call the parish office if you are interested and ask for the RCIA Director.
